WooCommerce search, filters and autocomplete

Default WordPress search was built for blog posts. You sell products.

StoreBoost replaces your WooCommerce search end to end: instant autocomplete as shoppers type, then a full results page with filters, facet counts and sorting. Typo-tolerant throughout, built on Apache Solr for catalogs from 5,000 to 200,000+ products.

Connect your store in a few steps. Plans from $19/mo. If anything ever goes wrong, shoppers fall back to your normal search.

  • Autocomplete and full search pages
  • Facets with live counts
  • Stock and price updates in seconds
  • Automatic fallback to native search

The problem

Default search doesn't know what a product is

WordPress search was built to find words in posts. It matches your query against the database, loads the whole site, and builds a results page. On a store with thousands of products, shoppers feel every second of it.

Slow when it matters.

Every search loads WordPress, queries the database and renders a full page. The bigger your catalog, the longer shoppers wait.

No autocomplete.

Shoppers have to guess your exact wording and press enter. They can't see what you sell as they type.

One typo, zero results.

"Jackt" finds nothing. The shopper doesn't think "typo". They think "they don't sell it".

Ranking that ignores commerce.

Default results aren't ordered by what sells, what's in stock or what's on sale. A sold-out product can outrank the one you want to move.

Filters that fight the search.

Every filter click is another database query. On a large catalog, narrowing a search can take longer than the search itself.

No view of what people want.

Default search doesn't show you what shoppers searched for and didn't find, so you can't fix it.

Search is the one place where shoppers tell you exactly what they want. Don't answer with a spinner.

How it works

How to add fast autocomplete search to WooCommerce

Live in three steps.

  1. 1

    Install the plugin.

Add the StoreBoost plugin to your store and connect it with one click.

  2. 2

    We index your catalog.

Products, variations, categories, brands, attributes and stock are indexed in the background, so your store stays fast while it runs.

  3. 3

    Shoppers search, filter and sort.

Suggestions appear as they type. The full results page, with filters, facet counts and sorting, comes from StoreBoost and is shown in your own theme.

After setup, price and stock changes sync as you make them. If StoreBoost is ever unreachable, your store quietly falls back to its normal search.

Search results page

The whole search page, not just a dropdown

When a shopper presses enter, StoreBoost runs the full results page: ranked products, facets with live counts, sorting and paging. Your theme still draws it, so it looks like the rest of your store.

Features

WooCommerce product search, from first keystroke to filtered results

Everything shoppers expect from a good store search, without rebuilding your site.

Autocomplete

Suggestions that sell

Products with image, price and stock appear as the shopper types, along with matching categories and popular searches.

Search results page

A whole results page, not just a dropdown

Press enter and the full results page comes from StoreBoost too: ranked for commerce, paged, and shown in your theme’s own product grid.

Facets and filters

Facets that narrow, fast

Category, price range, attributes like size and colour, and in-stock, with counts that follow every search and every click.

Sorting

Sorting shoppers expect

Relevance, price low to high and high to low, newest, best-selling and top rated, all answered by the search engine.

Typo tolerance

Typos still find products

Misspellings return real results with a clear “Showing results for” note. SKUs and part numbers stay exempt from fuzzy matching.

SKU search

Find it by number

Exact SKU and exact title matches rank first, so a shopper who knows what they want gets it immediately.

Variable products

Variations without the mess

One result per product, with its price range, attributes and an in-stock flag based on its variations.

Fresh stock and price

Don't sell what's gone

Stock and price changes reach search within seconds. Results pages show live price and stock from WooCommerce.

Synonyms and ranking

You decide what ranks

Teach search that sneakers and trainers mean the same thing. Favour products that are in stock, best-selling or on sale.

Safe by design

A fallback, always

If StoreBoost is ever slow or unreachable, your store uses its normal search. Shoppers never see an error page.

Live comparison

See it side by side

Type a product from your own catalog. We show your current search and StoreBoost on the same products, with timings.

We read only your public product list. Nothing is stored or shown under your name.

Built on Apache Solr, tuned for stores

Apache Solr is a mature, open-source search engine made for large catalogs. Our team has run Solr in production since 2012, and we tuned it for shops: fast prefix matching for autocomplete, facets and sorting for results pages, typo handling that leaves SKUs alone, and settings for each store. Your catalog gets its own private index, and your search never competes with a page load.

Who it's for

WooCommerce search for stores with big catalogs

Large catalogs.

From 5,000 to 200,000+ products, this is where default search breaks first.

Parts, hardware and B2B.

Shoppers search by part number, brand and model. StoreBoost matches those exactly, and uses typo tolerance only where you allow it.

Stock that changes all day.

Flash sales, drop shipping and daily imports are covered: search keeps up.

Stores losing shoppers after a search.

If people search and then leave, search is the first thing to fix.

FAQ

WooCommerce search questions, answered

Still unsure? Talk to us.

Why is my WooCommerce search slow?

Default search runs through WordPress and PHP and queries your database for every search. The cost grows with your product count and your plugins. Hosting and caching matter too, but moving search to a dedicated engine takes that load off your store.

Why does WooCommerce search return no results when I make a typo?

Default search looks for the exact words in your database and has no typo tolerance built in. StoreBoost adds adjustable typo tolerance, so "jackt" still finds jackets.

What is the best WooCommerce search plugin for a large catalog?

It depends on your catalog and what you need. StoreBoost is built for stores with 5,000 to 200,000+ products, where search that shares your own database hits its limits first.

Does StoreBoost replace my store's search?

Yes, both parts of it. Autocomplete appears as shoppers type, and the full search results page, including filters, facet counts and sorting, is powered by StoreBoost and shown in your own theme.

Does it work with my filters?

Yes. StoreBoost answers WooCommerce's standard filters for category, price, attributes and stock from the search engine, with facet counts for each search. [Add the tested filter plugins here before launch.]

Does it work with my theme and page builder?

We test with popular themes and page builders. [Add the tested list here before launch.]

Does it support variable products and SKUs?

Yes. Each product appears once, with its price range, attributes and stock status based on its variations. Exact SKU matches rank first.

How quickly do price and stock changes show up?

Within seconds. WooCommerce still checks stock live when a shopper adds to cart.

What happens if StoreBoost is down?

Your store automatically falls back to its normal search, so shoppers never see an error page.

What data do you collect?

Only product data: titles, descriptions, prices, stock, categories and attributes. We don't receive customer or order data. Search queries are logged without personal data.

What counts as a search, and what if I go over my plan?

One submitted query or results page is one search; suggestions while typing are included under fair use. We email you at 80% and 100% of your plan.

Is there a free trial? Can I cancel?

Yes, start with a free trial of [N] days. You can cancel from your dashboard.

Does it support other languages and currencies?

English search is supported at launch. More languages and multi-currency stores are planned.

Does it work with platforms other than WooCommerce?

Not yet. StoreBoost is built for WooCommerce only.

You sell products. Your search should know it.

Connect your store, see the difference on your own catalog, then decide.
